It's big: Look for the person on top!

It's big: Look for the person on top!

Cedar Creek Falls The height of the falls is truly deceptive... until a human stands up there! And it's a dizzying view "from the top", about 90 feet, but looking more like 200 feet!

Where? Southern California, about 30 miles East of San Diego. See the map. And if you switch the map to 'hybrid' you'll see the rugged terrain hikers must traverse to visit this fantastic place.

If you were flying over the waterfall you might not see it; squeezed into a narrow canyon, with many boulders on the surrounding slopes acting as camouflage. And because of a bend in the canyon just downstream, you only see the falls when you are close. Even then trees and boulders block this view until you are very close. This heavy water runoff coming from the Cuyamaca Mountains (among others) is very cold now. When it's warm and still flowing it's great swimming, and some visitors will leap from rock perches. I combined 3 separate photos to make this single view. Thanks to Mirelle Chateigne on Meetup for allowing me to share this with you.

Cedar Creek Falls, a ninety-foot waterfall whose heavy water runoff coming from the Cuyamaca Mountains (among others) is very very cold now. These visitors had to cross icy streams to get here -- and few, if any, will brave the chilly pool; When the water is warm and flowing, daredevils will leap from perches higher than seen here! Thanks to Mirelle Chateigne on Meetup for allowing me to share this with you.
